Hello, in the new year our goal has been to expand our product base for our customers who have been looking for more then what we currently stock.
We have taken our first step in doing that with our new Swissmar link on our home page.

As you all know just click on the Swissmar picture and it will take you directly to their home page which has hundreds of products. If you see something you like please contact us by e-mail jsventures09@gmail.com or by phone 1-204-415-3110 for pricing and availability.

In general all products are available and will take between 2 and 4 weeks for delivery depending where you are situated in Canada.

Christkindelmarkt 2009 in Winnipeg

Christkindelmarkt last weekend was a great success!
For those who do not know:
Christkindelmarkt is a traditional outdoor market, that is typically held throughout Germany and parts of France and Switzerland.

The Winnipeg Christkindelmarkt in recent years has been held on the last weekend in November and is organized by the German-Canadian Congress of Winnipeg. It runs for three days and is held at the Fort Garry place mall. If you missed it this year, make sure to check it out next season.

All three days were full with entertainment from Choirs, Orchestras, Bands and Dancers such as the South Winnipeg Kinderschule, Winnipeg Children's Choirs, German Society Brass Band, Vocalist Jenna Hull, Prairie Voices Choir and many more.

We would like to thank everyone who came out to support us this season.

Today we want to give you the chance to check out one of the recipes from one of the cookbooks we offer, I hope you will like what we have chosen.

This recipe is out of "Original Pfaelzisch"

Palatine Leek Tart

250 g flour (½ pound)
30 g sugar (1 oz)
2 tbsp. white wine
1 pinch of salt
125 g butter (¼ pound)
2 egg yolks

Coating:
20 g butter (¾ oz)
4-5 leeks, according to size

Topping:
1-2 eggs
1/8 l Cream (¼ pint)
Salt, pepper, nutmeg

Knead a short crust pastry out of the given ingredients, cool for one hour. Roll the pastry a little larger than the baking tin in order to have enough dough for the sides. Oil the tin and place the dough in it. Pre-bake in the oven at 200C (390F) for 10 minutes.

Heat the butter without browning. Thoroughly wash the leeks and cut them into fine rings. Braise them in butter and season with salt and pepper. Now place the leeks on the dough and bake the tart for another 20 minutes.

Whisk the eggs with the cream, season the mixture and pour it over the tart. Bake for another 5-8 minutes until coating is of a firm consistency.

A hearty Riesling goes very well with this dish!
